Sookmyung Women’s University has joined hands with global semiconductor equipment company Lam Research to cultivate talent who will lead the semiconductor industry.

On April 8, Sookmyung Women’s University signed a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation with Lam Research Korea at the university’s Administration Building. Attendees at the signing ceremony included Sookmyung President Moon Si-yeun, Vice President Wee Kyung-woo, Dean of External Affairs and Communication Lee Hyung-jin, Dean of Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Shin Ji-young, Dean of Career Development Son Seo-hee, Prof. Kwon Dae-seon of the Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Prof. Han Kwon-deok of the School of Mechanical Systems Engineering, and Lam Research Korea CEO Park Joon-hong, among others.

The agreement was pursued to nurture future semiconductor talent through strengthened industry-academia collaboration. Under the partnership, the two institutions will hold regular recruitment information sessions and cooperate in exchanging information to help build the semiconductor industry ecosystem.

Sookmyung Women’s University also plans to expand semiconductor-focused talent development programs in connection with the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s University Job Plus Center initiative. Through these efforts, the university expects to support students in exploring career paths and broaden their opportunities to enter the semiconductor field.

President Moon stated, “In this meaningful year marking the 120th anniversary of our founding, we are delighted to establish a partnership with Lam Research, a global leader in the semiconductor equipment market. We hope this agreement will help our students develop expertise in semiconductors and grow into leaders with global capabilities.”

Park Jun-hong, CEO of Lam Research Korea, said, “Securing outstanding talent is essential for the continued growth of Korea’s semiconductor industry. We will actively pursue a variety of industry-academia cooperation programs—including recruitment and educational support—so that Sookmyung’s talented students can become leaders in semiconductor innovation.”

A global leader in etching and deposition—core processes in semiconductor manufacturing—Lam Research has contributed to the development of Korea’s semiconductor ecosystem since establishing its Korean subsidiary in 1989, with major operations centered around its Yongin campus and facilities in Osan and Hwaseong. Recently, the company established a state-of-the-art Technology Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, accelerating semiconductor process development.
