On March 24, Damien Pereira, the Chief Representative of the Quebec Government in Korea, along with a delegation from major Quebec universities, visited Sookmyung Women’s University to discuss ways to enhance global educational collaboration.

Quebec, located in eastern Canada, stands out from other provinces due to its French heritage in various areas, most notably in language and culture. The Quebec government office in Korea operates separately from the Canadian embassy and is responsible for cultural exchanges and public relations.

Visitors at this event included Damien Pereira, the Quebec government representative in Korea, along with international exchange officials from three major Quebec universities: HEC Montréal, the National Research Institute of the University of Quebec, and Université Laval. From Sookmyung Women’s University, President Moon Si-yeun, Dean of International Affairs Jeon Se-jae, Professor Jeong Sang-hyun, Chair of the Department of French Language and Culture, and Professor Jeon Ji-hye welcomed the delegation to discuss cooperation measures.

The two parties agreed to collaborate in various areas, including student exchange, joint research, and short-term programs. Later, the delegation also toured the campus, experiencing Sookmyung Women’s University’s state-of-the-art educational environment and research infrastructure.

Chief Pereira stated, “Collaboration between universities in Quebec and Korea is an opportunity for us to maximize education and research synergies. We will continue our efforts to enhance educational collaboration between the two parties.”

This meeting is part of Sookmyung’s internationalization strategy, focusing on strengthening international networks to become a global women’s university in the 21st century. Earlier, Sookmyung Women’s University signed a general academic and student exchange agreement with HEC Montréal, Canada’s first business school, and is also pursuing agreements with the National Research Institute of the University of Quebec and Université Laval.

Sookmyung Women’s University seeks to leverage this visit further to strengthen its international network with universities in Quebec. Jeon Se-jae, Dean of International Affairs, stated, “Through this meeting, we hope to strengthen relations with the Quebec government and universities, while also expanding future collaborations.”
